Community service is in our blood.
The Coastal Blood Foundation is building on the legacy of The Blood Alliance, a non-profit organization with a 73-year history of providing a safe, available and affordable blood supply to First Coast and nearby hospitals. When The Blood Alliance merged with the non-profit Orlando-based OneBlood in 2015, proceeds from the transaction created an endowment for the Coastal Blood Foundation to support blood-related research, education and outreach initiatives.
1942 — The Jacksonville Blood Bank is founded to provide a safe and reliable supply of donated blood and blood products to local hospitals.
1980s — After expansion into southeast Georgia, the Jacksonville Blood Bank is rebranded as the Florida Georgia Blood Alliance.
2005 — The non-profit further expands into the Low Country area of South Carolina and is renamed The Blood Alliance.
2015 — The Blood Alliance is sold to OneBlood, and the Coastal Blood Foundation commits to investing all proceeds back into the communities served.
2017 — First round of grants paid to non-profit organizations involved in transfusion medicine services, education and/or research.
